About Roman Chamomile

Roman Chamomile is a low-growing, perennial chamomile prized for its sweet apple-like fragrance, delicate white flowers, and soft, creeping habit. Unlike German Chamomile, which grows upright and produces heavy yields, Roman Chamomile forms a fragrant groundcover and is often used between stepping stones, along borders, or in herbal lawns.

This is a gentle, beautiful, and calming plant—perfect for tea gardens, cottage gardens, sensory gardens, and medicinal landscapes.

Traditional & Herbal Uses

Roman Chamomile has been traditionally used as:

• A calming tea herb
• A gentle nervine
• A traditional sleep-supporting plant
• A digestive soother
• A comforting household herb
• A children’s tea herb
• A gentle daily-use flower
• A soothing botanical

The flowers are the primary medicinal part.

How to Germinate Roman Chamomile Seeds

Surface Sowing (Important)

Roman Chamomile seeds need light to germinate.

  1. Scatter seeds on the soil surface.

  2. Press lightly into soil.

  3. Do NOT cover with soil.

  4. Keep consistently moist using gentle misting.

Germination Time

• 10–20 days
• Can be slightly staggered

Zones 4–9

Sun

• Full sun to partial shade
• Prefers morning sun in hot climates
