About Valerian

Valerian is one of the most well-known and deeply respected medicinal herbs in the world. Native to Europe and parts of Asia, it has been cultivated for thousands of years as a calming, grounding, and restoring plant.

This tall, graceful perennial produces soft pink-to-white flower clusters that glow in early summer and fill the garden with a sweet fragrance. Beneath the soil, valerian develops thick, aromatic roots that have been traditionally treasured in herbal systems.

Valerian is both beautiful above ground and powerful below it—a true apothecary plant.

Traditional & Herbal Uses

Valerian has been traditionally used as:

• A classic calming herb
• A traditional nervine
• A grounding botanical
• A sleep-supporting plant
• A stress-supporting herb
• A relaxing tea plant

• A foundational medicinal root

The root is the primary traditionally used part, though the flowers and leaves are also valued.
