Anise Hyssop
Anise Hyssop is a sweetly aromatic North American mint-family herb with a history in tea, food, pollinator, and household herbal traditions. It is commonly researched by customers interested in digestion, gas and bloating, the throat, respiratory comfort, cough traditions, calm, mood, sweet breath, tea traditions, and pollinator wellness. Anise Hyssop is generally identified as Agastache foeniculum and should not be confused with true hyssop or anise seed.
Scientific Evidence / Research Status
Anise Hyssop contains aromatic volatile compounds, flavonoids, and other plant constituents. Modern research is largely botanical, chemical, laboratory, or preclinical, and strong human clinical evidence for its traditional uses is lacking. Anise Hyssop should not be presented as proven to treat cough, respiratory infection, digestive disease, anxiety, mood disorders, or other medical conditions. The dried herb and concentrated essential oil should not be treated as equivalent.
Traditional Uses Listed on Jar Label

Jar-Label Warning Highlights
Use with care during pregnancy or nursing when considering medicinal amounts. Avoid if allergic to mint-family plants. Use care with reflux, sensitive stomach, sedatives, medications, or ongoing health conditions. Do not take Anise Hyssop essential oil internally.
Historical Uses / Traditional Context
Historically, Anise Hyssop was used by Indigenous North American peoples and later herbal traditions as an aromatic tea and food plant. Its flowers are highly valued by bees and other pollinators. Its traditional calming, digestive, and respiratory reputation does not establish treatment effectiveness.
