🌱 Growing Information

  • USDA Zones: 7–10

  • Sunlight: Full sun (6+ hours daily)

  • Mature Size: 10–20 ft tall and wide (can be pruned smaller)

  • Fruit Time: Late summer into early fall

  • Growth Habit: Fast-growing, vigorous tree

  • Container Friendly: Yes, grows well in large pots

🪴 How to Plant & Care

  1. Soil Prep:
Choose well-draining soil enriched with compost. Loamy or sandy soil is ideal. Avoid heavy clay. pH should be slightly acidic to neutral (6.0–7.0).

  2. Planting:
Dig a hole twice the width of the root ball and just as deep. Place the fig at the same depth it was growing in the pot. Backfill with soil and water deeply.

  3. Watering:
Water regularly the first year to establish roots, especially in hot weather. Once established, figs are drought-tolerant but will fruit better with consistent moisture.

  4. Fertilizing:
Feed in early spring with compost or a balanced organic fertilizer. Avoid high-nitrogen fertilizers — they promote leaves over fruit.

  5. Pruning:
Prune in late winter to control size, remove dead wood, and shape the tree for airflow and fruit production.
