Comfrey Leaf is a traditional external-use leaf with a long history in poultices, salves, compresses, and skin-support traditions. It is commonly researched by customers interested in skin, wound care traditions, bruises, sprains, joint comfort, muscle comfort, tissue repair traditions, cooling, external salves, and gentle inflammation support. Comfrey Leaf is for external use only and should not be taken internally.
Scientific Evidence / Research Status
Comfrey contains allantoin, rosmarinic acid, and other plant constituents that have been studied in topical preparations. Some topical research exists for specific comfrey preparations, but safety depends heavily on the plant part, preparation, quality, duration, and skin condition. Comfrey Leaf should not be presented as proven to treat wounds, broken bones, sprains, joint disease, muscle injury, skin disease, inflammation, pain, or any medical condition. Internal use is not appropriate because comfrey contains pyrrolizidine alkaloids that may harm the liver.

Jar-Label Warning Highlights
External use only. Do not take internally. Do not use on deep wounds, puncture wounds, broken skin, or for long periods. Avoid during pregnancy, nursing, liver disease, children, or with liver-stressing medications. Comfrey contains pyrrolizidine alkaloids that may harm the liver.
Historical Uses / Traditional Context
Historically, Comfrey Leaf was used in European and folk herbal traditions as a poultice and salve herb. It was often called “knitbone” in older herbal traditions because of its historical connection with tissue and bone traditions, but modern use should stay external, cautious, and conservative.

Please disregard the health-support wording on the jar labels. Do not choose, purchase, prepare, or use any herb based only on words written on the jar, including words such as support, inflammation, digestion, immune, heart, circulation, pain, skin, blood flow, liver, hormones, or similar wording.
Those words are not promises, guarantees, proof, or claims that the herb will help that condition. Just because a jar label lists a body system or support word does not mean that herb will help you personally.
