Edgar Baby Dragon Fruit
Hylocereus guatemalensis ‘Edgar's Baby’
Zone 10–11 (Greenhouse or Container Recommended) | Self-Pollinating | Sweet Red Flesh
Edgar Baby Dragon Fruit is a standout variety bred by Edgar Valdivia and prized for its deep red flesh, sweet flavor, and reliable fruit set. This variety is self-pollinating and known for its ability to produce consistent, high-quality fruit even in containers or small greenhouse setups.
We propagate this variety from healthy, established mother plants. Each cutting is rooted and shipped as a strong, well-started young plant ready to grow.
The plant is a fast-growing climbing cactus with three-sided stems and minimal spines. It produces medium-sized fruit with red skin and vibrant red flesh that’s sweet, juicy, and loaded with antioxidants. The blooms are large, white, and fragrant — opening at night and often fruiting within the first couple years under good care.
How to Grow:
-
Sunlight: Full sun to partial shade (at least 6 hours of direct sun daily)
-
Soil: Well-draining soil (cactus mix or sandy loam preferred)
-
Watering: Water deeply but infrequently; allow soil to mostly dry between waterings
-
Support: Provide a trellis, post, or cage for climbing growth
-
Temperature: Protect from frost; bring indoors or into a greenhouse if temps drop below 40°F
-
Fertilizer: Use a balanced fertilizer during the growing season for best fruit production
-
Container Growing: Excellent for pots; use a 5-gallon+ container with drainage
-
Time to Fruit: 1–2 years under ideal conditions
With proper care, Edgar Baby can reward you with exotic, delicious fruit and an impressive tropical presence in your garden or greenhouse.
