Japanese Knotweed

Japanese Knotweed is a traditional East Asian root herb and a modern commercial source of resveratrol. It is commonly researched by customers interested in antioxidants, resveratrol, healthy inflammatory response, circulation, joint comfort, immune support, seasonal wellness, and cellular-protection traditions. Japanese Knotweed may interact with medications and should not be treated as equivalent to isolated or standardized resveratrol.

Scientific Evidence / Research Status

Japanese Knotweed root contains resveratrol, polydatin, emodin, physcion, and other compounds. Its roots generally contain substantially more resveratrol than its leaves or stems, but composition varies with plant origin, harvest time, processing, and preparation. Much of the research involves isolated compounds, laboratory studies, animals, or combination products rather than ordinary Japanese Knotweed Powder. It should not be presented as proven to treat Lyme disease, infections, arthritis, heart disease, circulatory disease, cancer, immune disorders, inflammation, or any medical condition. Plant-analysis research confirms that the root contains resveratrol and several other chemically active constituents.

Historical Uses / Traditional Context

Historically, Japanese Knotweed root was used in Chinese and East Asian herbal traditions. More recently, the plant has become a commercial source of resveratrol. It is also highly invasive in many regions, but its invasive status does not prove a medicinal effect.
